The Minyan’s Programming

Please Note: The Minyan Calendar includes our own events along with events at Center Communities of Brookline, where Rabbi Jim serves as Chaplain and where we hold services once a month (usually on the third Shabbat). Minyan folks are always welcome to join programs in Brookline. Please be in touch with Rabbi Jim for more information.

Tzedakah Programming

On the fourth Thursday of every month, minyan members gather at First Church Cambridge (our home for the High Holidays) to make soup (or sandwiches during the summer) for the Church’s Friday Café.  Please contact RabbiJim@worshipandstudy.org for more information.

We are currently running a Tzedekah campaign to support two vital organizations that serve as a lifeline for those in need: Yad Chessed and First Church in Cambridge Food Café. We have selected charities that will help alleviate food insecurity in our community, which is a major concern for Jews and non-Jews alike.

As an added component of the tzedekah campaign this year,  W&S is sponsoring a lecture/dinner event at Lehrhaus Restaurant in Somerville, MA, on  Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 4:00pm, featuring speaker Dr. Joseph Reimer, followed by a kosher family-style dinner.  This event combines community building, learning together, and giving to tzedakah.

Learning Opportunities

Most months, we have a special learning program, either a potluck Lunch and Learn gathering, following Shabbat services or a Schmooze and Learn on another day. Check our blog for more information.  Recent topics have included a conversation with the organizers of Standing Together and “Cosmic Paradox” with Evgenya Shkolnik.

One Minyan One Book Club

The minyan’s book club  meets every four to six weeks on a Sunday evening on Zoom. Frequently, authors join us to discuss the book. Recent books: Abraham Joshua Heschel: A Life of Radical Amazement by Julian Zelizer and The Oppermanns by Lion Feuchtwanger.

Additional Learning Opportunities

Periodically, we have evening programs on Zoom. Recent events: Human Rights Shabbat commemoration:  Life in a Firestorm: Hellishness and Help for Jews in Ukraine with Rabbi Alisa Zilbershtein and a follow-up event with Debbie Kardon, Director of Action for Post-Soviet Jewry.
