Since the beginning of the Gaza War, the number of Jewish settler attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank has increased dramatically. The overall goal of these attacks is to force the Palestinians to leave their land. I will discuss my experience with the group “Standing Together” including our efforts to establish a “Protective Presence” in key areas of conflict in order to protect the vulnerable and decrease the likelihood of escalation and violence.
Tom Schultheiss was an active member of the Worship and Study Minyan from 1997 to 2007. In 2007 he moved to Haifa, Israel, where he is a Professor of Genetics and Developmental Biology at the Rappaport Medical School of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. He is on the leadership board of the Haifa Chapter of Standing Together (עומדים ביחד), an Israeli grassroots movement that aims to bring together Arab Israeli and Jewish Israeli communities in the struggle for Israeli-Palestinian peace, equality and social justice.
