Sunday, May 3 | 4:00 pm | Lehrhaus (425 Washington Street, Somerville, 02143)
Worship and Study is excited to announce that we will offer a special tzedakah event with Professor Joe Reimer, a great friend and early member of the minyan.
The cost of this event is $135 and all proceeds will go to the Sherman Sass Tzedakah Fund as part of our tzedakah campaign for 2026. Given that you will receive goods and services worth $135, this donation will not be tax deductible, but any additional donation will be.
We have chosen two charities for this year: Yad Chessed and the Friday Café at First Church Cambridge. We have selected charities that will help alleviate food insecurity in our community, a major concern for Jews and non-Jews alike.

The title of Joe’s discussion will be “Is the Biblical Joseph a Hero for our Times?”: Every age reads the Bible in its own idiom. Joseph has always been a fascinating character for commentators, but today viewing the Joseph story raises new questions relevant for our troubling times. Let’s explore those questions.
Joe Reimer has recently retired after almost 40 years of teaching at Brandeis University. He is a psychologist, educator, meditator, grandparent and student of Biblical narratives.
Everyone is encouraged to make a contribution to our Tzedekah campaign, whether or not you are interested in attending the Lehrhaus event. If you are NOT attending the Lehrhaus event, the full amount of your tzedakah contribution is tax deductible. And we would encourage you to contribute by Purim, as traditionally done.
